In 2019 I made it a goal for myself to quit my day job. I didn’t know how likely it was or if I would have the courage to finally do it, but I remember some nights begging Trevor to let me quit and them ending in tears. As hard as it was to accept that I needed to continue working, I can’t blame him because he was only being realistic and looking out for us. I would ask him every once in a while when I felt like I couldn’t do it anymore. Have you ever dealt with unreasonable customers in a retail environment? Or people who treat you like human garbage / your sole purpose on earth is to serve them? It happened often and I knew that it wasn’t for me, I felt as if my potential was just wasting away in this small clothing store. Somehow, and I can’t remember when exactly, I finally convinced him. Maybe he could see how much this job was really bringing my spirits down, but he agreed to let me take the plunge. I was so thankful. I AM so thankful. We both took a chance on me taking this business full time and I couldn’t be happier! It seems like after being a photographer for 8+ years I would have figured it out sooner, but all that matters is i’m doing it now + i’m so grateful to all of my clients and friends who continue to welcome me into their lives to photograph them, and to my husband who never complains (idk how he does it) and allows me to be on this journey while loving and supporting me. I love you all so much! I’m so incredibly happy to finally be doing what I love with no other jobs or distractions.
So yea! Quitting my job was one of my goals for 2019, but it’s a new year + new decade! Here are some of the goals i’ve set for myself this year, in my business and personal life (along with some mantras):
girl, get your branding done and launch your website
no excuses.
take care of yourself; make time for self care
be present for loved ones
write out a schedule every sunday for your week + stick to it
listen to audiobooks instead of music while editing photos
more home cooked meals / less fast food (and soda)
exercise at least 3x per week
actively work to be a better person, for yourself and your marriage
stay on top of your work, don’t be lazy.
be active on insta. it’s okay to share your life and work
post what you want / what makes you happy
live your life unapologetically and on your own time, not according to others
do things regardless of being out of your comfort zone
travel alone. you can do it.
there you have it! not my full list of goals but the gist of it. I am so stoked to really push myself this year and see where it takes me. so much can happen in a year if you stay focused.
